editor's note
Dear Reader,
Consider what surrounds you and what sustains you—all the places we call home. What does extinction look like you to you? What do you find in the direction opposite of homeward?
We are thrilled to introduce you to the latest issue of Gaia Lit, featuring the creative work of nineteen incredible artists. The theme for our issue was ecosystem declination; we encouraged potential contributors to research key terms for inspiration, including but not limited to ecological collapse, endangered species, and anthropogenic climate change.
In this issue of Gaia Lit, we consider the liminal space in which we find ourselves caught between passivity and action. Now, undoubtedly, is a time of change, of rebuilding what we know to be home. By leaning into the contradictions of life, we take another step closer to the reflection of our truest self. We can understand that to dream is to make a promise to love. To follow that line. To call that place home.
Let us be fearless when challenged by uncertainty, the absence of light. Let us find brightness in ourselves and the ones we love. May we rebuild ourselves.
Thank you to our readers, our staff, our submitters, our contributors, and you—you make Gaia more than possible. As always, we hope you stay.
Best wishes,
Elane Kim
Editor-in-Chief of Gaia Lit
