our mission:
Gaia Lit is a student-run online literary magazine dedicated to spreading awareness about the climate crisis. We at Gaia aim to make climate activism more accessible through the vehicles of art and literature, and, in doing so, hope to uplift unheard voices through seasonal issue publications.
Gaia was founded in 2018 by a group of students passionate about art, literature, and climate activism, and has since received thousands of submissions from across the world, spanning several continents. Now a reality, at Gaia, we want to keep our readers informed and inspired. We wish to spotlight underrepresented voices and encourage action.
Since its inception, Gaia has been generously awarded a fellowship from the Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs to support its mission of climate activism, as well as an ambassadorship from the Davidson Institute. We welcome potential contributors to see how they can get involved with their local communities; editors and contributors of Gaia have organized local clean-up events at parks and beaches, and we'd love to include you and your voice.
We revel in what makes us think twice. We are interested in the definition of what is new and the redefinition of what isn't. We are intrigued by all that bites, all that leaves us reeling. We love exploring the language of song and the rhythm of renewal. Above all else, we believe in engendering change through a diverse range of media, from visual arts to creative writing. We deeply encourage contributors and readers alike to be informed and aware of environmental issues.
We believe that change can only come with action, and Gaia is our way of making our voices heard.
