winter 2023
editors' notes
Dear Reader,
Is our inaction born from our limited perspective or rigidity? How much of the planet must we bear witness to before loving it? And will we be able to see enough before it turns to ash?
With this Project Gaia, we hope to bring forth the embers of our previous issues and enhearten our readers with the passion to explore their own passion for the planet. In this inaugural anthology sponsored by the Bow Seat Awareness Programs, we feature fourteen talented poets, writers, and artists who have explored their own engagement in climate change and passion for Gaia.
This previous year, the globe has been shocked by geopolitical and economic turmoil, and in the face of overwhelming internet consciousness, it is difficult to care for each issue simultaneously, lest we suffocate in anxieties or take intangible action. Yet, even as violence spills upon the world from overburdened positions of power, we hope that Gaia retains a place in everyone's hearts--as it did for our contributors.
We at Gaia Lit hope that you will enjoy our return to publishing with this latest issue. Happy reading!
Best wishes,
Callen Kuwahara

Dear Reader,
This issue holds a very dear place in my heart—not only for the honesty, bravery, and sheer brilliance of its contributors, but also for the way it has grown with Gaia itself, having been forged out of our mission to spread awareness about the climate crisis in a way that will echo long after it is heard. As editor-in-chief, I have truly been humbled and honored to bear witness to this project's growth and longevity.
Project Gaia was first envisioned many years before it was brought to life; the feeling of having it here, alive and well and so ready to be witnessed, is indescribable. It is the closest feeling to light I can imagine.
Now, I find myself in a position of extreme gratitude: I want to thank our incredibly talented cast of contributors for this issue; our wonderful staff, especially managing editors Callen and Shawn for their leadership, their dedication, and their commitment to elevating unheard voices; and of course, you, dear reader, for tuning in. We are always thrilled you are here.
Happy reading, and be well.
Best wishes,
Elane Kim
